I am a CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Certified Level I Writing Tutor.
I was a Writing Center Tutor starting in Spring 2015 (spring semester of my sophomore year).
I worked 6 hours per week during each semester, and I helped students mostly with grammar in the revision process of essay writing.
I saw mostly International Students from China, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait. English was their second language, so they normally needed the most help when writing essays. I also saw American students for grammar, but not as frequently.
However, even though I mostly provided grammar advice, I could also help with any part of the writing process - like prewriting and helping the students brainstorm/organize their thoughts, help with creating outlines, etc.
I also helped with citations and format styles - I see mostly APA, MLA, and science formats.
I specialized in English and science subjects since I had experience writing for both, but I also worked with a lot of marketing and business students.
I became CRLA certified after tutoring over 25 hours and going through 10 (or more) hours of tutor training.
The Writing Center was the most utilized tutor center on campus, so Writing Center tutors had more of an advantage in regards to getting CRLA certified.
I was one of the first ones (along with my coworker, named Devin) to get certified as a Level I.
