When you are talking Disney and Pixie Dust you are either talking about the original fairy herself, Tinkerbelle or random act of kindness or unexpected extras given to others.
When you are visiting a Disney park and a Cast Member hands you an extra fast pass or you are given a free churro you are being Pixie Dusted. When onboard Disney Cruise Line being invited to join the Princesses for their grand entry into the Atrium, tickets for a sold out event appearing at your door or being handed a popcorn as you walk into a show is Pixie Dust.
Fellow Disney park visitors or cruisers can also join in spreading Pixie Dust by participating in random acts of giving such as handing out glow sticks at the nightly show, leaving a special treat on a chair or table to be found by another guest, or handing out treat bags as you walk alongl. There are lots of ways to spread extra magic around and pixie dust at Disney and it doesn’t just have to be to other guests, cast members enjoy being Pixie Dusted too. (PS if you are spreading Pixie Dust, please consider adding a tag indicating that it is Pixie Dust so it is not mistaken for a left behind item or something intended for another person.)
Pixie Dust onboard a Disney Cruise often takes the form of leaving an unexpected gift in a FE holder, placing a trinket or toy on a lounge chair, adding a special magnet to a cabin door or anything else you think might add a little bit of something extra to someone’s day or trip. Since the intention is random giving and acts of kindness, Pixie Dust items onboard are usually small gifts or tokens. More personal gifts are usually part of a formalized Fish Extender Exchange.
Some ways to encourage Pixie Dusting within your FB sailing group:
● Let your group know about Pixie Dusting. It’s one of the many things that makes DCL unique.
● Offering a list where group members can sign up to be pixie dusted (when doing this, I specify that if you are signing up to be Pixie Dusted, you must also be Pixie Dusting others.)
● Consider a Pixie Dust list as a last minute FE Exchange option for those joining the group after the organized FE Exchanges are closed. In this case, those on the list are to gift everyone else on the list. This should be clear in the sign-up. Many organizers break the Pixie Dust group down into smaller groups if offering this option and the list becomes quite large or even form them into FE Groups if the number on the list meets the group size of the FE groups.
● Encourage members of the formalized FE Exchanges to consider Pixie Dusting any extra items they have made or bought to others onboard (including those on the Pixie Dust list if offered).
● Encourage formalized FE Exchange Participants to Pixie Dust any inappropriate or unwanted items they may receive rather than throw them away (this can be a bit of a touchy subject but for example, my family has numerous food allergies and we often receive food items that cannot be safely consumed so we are happy to Pixie Dust them along to cabins on the pixie dust list, random cabins in our area or throughout the ship.)
Keep in mind, some organizer do not offer Pixie Dust Lists as the intention is random acts of giving. A simple Roll Call list within your groups will allow those who want to Pixie Dust a specific person, family or group to find where to leave their items.
