On-Board Data Services Review
DCL provides email communications regarding on-board data packages including daily emails about how much of that data you’ve or when you have used 25%, 75% and 100% of your package. In this case I opted for the $0 / 50MB package, but note that you MUST SIGN UP FOR THAT PACKAGE THE FIRST DAY at DCLGuest.com once on-board!
Note that accessing DCLGuest.com, the usage meter provided or the Disney Cruise Navigator app do NOT count against your data plan,. However, if you don’t take steps to minimize your data use on-board you will blow through 50MB in a day or two very easily. The biggest data use culprits are Automatic Software/App updates and a variety of back-up and cloud syncing services. Note that multiple devices can leverage the same data package.
Some of us like to try to really unplug while cruising, and in that case the free 50MB package should suffice for very infrequent use. But if that’s not desirable or possible for you then other packages with more data are available including the following (NOTE: this is subject to change and your mileage may vary): $19 for 100 MB / $39 for 300 MB / $89 for 1000 MB
Below is the last email I received (the evening before the 4 night cruise ended) indicating I’d used all of my data. While the links provided aren’t active on shore, they are while onboard and connected to their WiFi.
