Fall at the lake is a beautiful time of year! If you plan on staying in the area for a few extra days, we recommend checking out these great locations!
Kokanee Salmon Spawn
Every Fall, the Kokanee Salmon swim up Taylor Creek to spawn. You may be able to see them the weeks surrounding the wedding! The aspen trees surrounding the creek will also begin to change around this time. It's a great opportunity for photos and is always free!
Kiva Beach
This is our favorite beach on the lake! We have many memories shared here! The great thing about this location is that it is one of the few beaches with free parking. Located just passed Valhalla and across from the entrance to Fallen Leaf Lake. This is also very close to the Kokanee Salmon.
Emerald Bay
Emerald Bay is probably one of the most famous places on the South Shore. Many people from all over the world come to view it. If you continue onto HWY 89 towards the West side of the lake, you will drive along the entire bay. Fannette island (the only island in Lake Tahoe) is located in the center of the bay and has the remnants of a tea house which was built by the owners of Vikingsholm (another great location to check out). There are multiple sites to pull off from the road and grab your very own picture of the beautiful bay!
Angora Lakes
Another beautiful location to visit and is very close to Fallen Leaf Lake. It is a great place for a day-time visit filled with water-sports and cliff jumping. This location may be a little bit more difficult to get to as it requires some hiking, but it is all the worth while to see the beauty.
Heavenly Gondola
If you're looking for some incredible panoramic views of Lake Tahoe, the Heavenly Gondola is the place to be! The Gondola can be ridden year-round and takes you up to 14,000 feet above sea level! Near the top of the Gondola is an observation deck where you can spend time taking pictures and seeing the incredible sights of Lake Tahoe. The Gondola is located very close to Stateline, NV.
Eateries:
While you're in town, why not enjoy some of the great local food?! You won't find any "chains" here! Below are places we highly recommend, and they are all locally owned and operated!
Sno-Flake Drive In: Located in the heart of South Lake Tahoe! Pop in and grab yourself a delicious 'Tahoe' burger and a world famous milkshake! This place is always voted a local's favorite and there's a reason why! While you're in there, see if you can find a familiar face on the wall.
Sprouts Natural Foods Cafe: Located just 2 blocks from Sno-Flake, Sprouts is a hidden gem! This restaurant will make both your meat-lovers and meat-leavers happy! A unique menu with lots of good food will have you coming back for more!
Rude Brother's Bagel & Coffee: Located just a couple doors down from Sprouts, Rude Brother's provides homemade bagels and sandwiches for breakfast and lunch. Their coffee is delicious, and their bagel's are even better (if that's even possible!).
Satos: Are you in the mood for the best sushi of your life? Be sure to stop by Sato Japanese Restaurant, our personal favorite! No matter where we go, nothing compares to the memories we have of our All-You-Can-Eat sushi trips at Sato's. Be sure to give the Dynamite roll a try, as it's Honey's absolute favorite (seen top center below)!
Taqueria Jalisco's: This place is probably one of the most underrated eateries on the South Shore. Here, you will find authentic Mexican-style food at a very affordable price! They have some of the biggest burritos you will ever see! And as always, their service is quick and friendly.
