Extra Credit 1

Due 30 September/ 28 February at 11:59 PM HOL time.

Please send your answers in one email to hol.signlanguage@gmail.com and put "Sign Language - Extra Credit 1 - HOL Name" in the subject line. Also remember to include your HOL name and your House in the body of your email.

Option 1 - Research

Which sign language does your country make use of? How is it different from other varieties of sign language? Does it bear any relation to the language(s) spoken in that country? Which other sign languages does it bear resemblance to? How was deaf education carried out in the past, and how does this compare to current times?

Minimum 300 words.

Option 2 - Application

Part A - 10 points:

Fingerspell your HOL name, using the alphabet associated with your country's sign language. You should actually practice this by signing it out properly, with each letter more or less occupying the same space as each other, but what I'd like you to do is group the letters together in your name so that it looks something like this.

Upload the image to an image-hosting site and send me the link to it.

Part B - 10 points:

While this isn't application as such, I would be interested to hear why you decided to take this class and also whether you have come into contact with either deaf or Deaf people before. Minimum 100 words.

Part C - 10 points:

Let's go over some vocabulary basics.. Find out how you would sign 5 of the following in your country's sign language (or the sign language of your choice):

i) HELLO

ii) HOW-ARE-YOU

iii) FINE

iv) NAME YOU WHAT (What is your name? Note: this consists of three separate signs)

v) NAME MINE... (My name is...)

vi) PLEASED-TO-MEET-YOU

vii) PLEASE

viii) THANK-YOU

ix) YOU'RE-WELCOME

x) GOODBYE

Please also include a link to the images or videos you found for those signs.
