This is the Hotchkiss M1914 Machine gun:
The weapon was invented by Benjamin Hotchkiss in 1872 and he later died in 1885.
It was then taken on by the French Army in 1897 and was used right through into the Second World War.
The Hotchkiss had 32 parts, including four springs, no screws and no pins, making it simple and easy to take apart and maintain.
The Hotchkiss company delivered 47,000 machine guns to the French Army between 1914 and the end of the war.
