Dred Scott Gaining in Popularity

2016

In February of 2016, a survey of the 15 Most influential people in Western Tidewater history by the Tidewater News is released. Dred Scott was voted second in historical significance. Historians would undoubtedly rank him first. He was the number 1 news story of 1857.

2013

In April there is a highway marker ceremony on Route 58 in Southampton County, Virginia attended by about 100 people recognizing Dred Scott and the Blow Families contribution to the abolition of slavery in the United States. News of the event was reported nationally.

2012

Dred Scott’s Virginia first printing released recognizing Dred Scott’s birthplace in Southampton County, Virginia.
