This came in just after the last post - from a resident:

Ivory Liquid dish soap is a gardener's friend, too! Add a little to sprayer w/water for keeping japanese beetles & other bugs off your roses but make sure you spray UNDER leaves where they hide, and do it either very early in A.M. or after sun goes below trees.

Also, take a bag with you when you get your hair cut & ask for the floor sweepings. Keep them outside & stuff into old pantyhose, stretch & stake them around veggies to help keep critters away. This works sometimes...as with all "helpful home hints" not all work for all cases!

Start composting with equal parts mulched leaves, grass, organic food scraps chopped into small (1") pieces (egg shells, okay, just no seeds, dairy, bread or meat), wood chips, and dirt. A 3-section bin works best. Turn or move shovel-fulls of dirt from bin to bin at least 1-2x per week. Add new food scraps first, then bury under compost. Throw some earthworms in to help! Compost bins & rain barrels are coming up for sale at the Drop-off sites in Hunt Valley & Eastern Landfills soon! Happy Gardening!
