Thousands of years ago, Humans were just one of many races vying for dominance over the Earth. Other races were more ferocious, more bloodthirsty, but humanity proved to be more numerous, imaginative, and successful. Soon enough, the other races retreated into hiding, and man was left in total control of the planet. After a few thousand years, those races transformed into stories to tell children at night and hushed whispers spoken by a few.
Once knowledge of the other races was rediscovered, the governments of the world formed the Grand Alliance, a secret pact between 42 nations to house and protect all races under their laws commonly specifying ‘Human Rights’. The Alliance is overseen by a council made from a representative from each of these nations and one member of each other race, which works towards protecting the peace.
Most humans are rightfully fearful of these strange creatures of nightmare, and many simply deny their existence entirely. The Grand Alliance utilises this to play down their operations, and to protect the world from supernatural threats without causing mass panic. Therefore, most humans who join the Guild have had experience with the other races before, and will do anything to make sure that only humanity stays on top of the food chain.
A Hunter is an ordinary human who has dedicated themselves to fighting the supernatural and protecting humanity from the encroaching darkness. In the Guild, their versatility makes them excellent at policing the other races and watching out for humanities interests. Most are fiercely loyal to the Grand Alliance and will be the first into the fray against its enemies.
Magic has been a part of human society for decades but is gradually being pushed out in favour of science and reasoning. However, there are those to cling to the old ways, mostly living as hermits on the outskirts of humanity. The Guild offers a better life for these outcasts and a place to practice and hone their skills in the service of the Grand Alliance.
Over the years, there have been some humans who have transcended mortality. Whether gifted with divine power, bathing in the blood of innocents, or taking over younger bodies, these humans have been alive for hundreds of years. They bring valuable knowledge to the Guild, as well as unique fighting styles, but most Immortals are distrustful of new technology, believing the old ways are far superior.
