Salla

At present there is known only one finding of grey cattle in the central of Estonia, from Jõgeva county. This population has its origin in Lääne-Virumaa, Salla region. From this farm, there has been spreading grey cattle both to other villages within the county but also there has been sold a grey cow to Tartu region. There are several memories of grey cattle in the border region of Ida-Viru county, Lääne-Viru county and Jõgeva county – Avinurme municipal seems to be one origin area as well. Up til now no new lines from this area have been found.

The Salla line has been preserved by an old lady in Maardla village in Saare municipal. She have even done much more, as she has actively been selling off calfs and cows to other keepers and in this way I located at least 3 other farms that have got a cow from her farm in the same municipal. There were different kind of colors of cows.
