WHM (Bonn, 1972)
Stefan Müller (kb); Robert v. Weizsäcker (dr), GH (b);
A short-lived formation. And furthermore, we could only rehearse when GH was in town (Bonn-Bad Godesberg, Germany) on weekend breaks from draft military service. This instrumental band with two legs in Jazz, nevertheless found some acclaim in the local press which saw some future in this band - and not only because of Robert`s name and professional drumming background and Stefan’s sublime keyboard playing - but the prognosis did not not turn out to be true. Stefan unfortunately passed away in June 2011.
Hinkelstein (Bonn, 1970-1971)
Joachim Dick (voc), John "Johnny" Schamong (g), Michael Balk (kb); GH (b); ? (dr)
The sound became a lot more professional. Johnny was one of the most talented guitarists in the region. I was asked to join, there was a slot in bass, and so I learned a new instrument. And at the latest when ? joined (I forgot the name), “Hinkelstein” became a fixture in the regional music scene: "open air", University Festival, etc etc., and even a concert in Trier. The playlist contained perhaps one or two originals, otherwise covers of Rory Gallagher, Black Sabbath, Hendrix etc.
Blue Susanna (Bonn, 1969-1970)
Joachim Dick (voc, g), GH (g), Martin Biskup ? (b), ? (dr)
This band became fairly well known and got some press metion (at least in the region), wen BS started playing at so-called “Beat-Services” in churches. Priests/Pastors regardless of which denomination were happy about full churches, and the local press had their headline “Jumping Jack Flash in church”. We even played in a youth detention center (prison) in Siegburg: first a religous service, then a rock concert. Our repertoire consisted only of covers. But around 1000 people came to hear us a the first “free concert” we organised and played at (the only band) in Bad Godesberg. Six girls from the local girls’ high school sang the background vocals to “You can’t always get what you want”. A memorable experience, but I don`t remember who played drums at the time. This is what a regional journal had to say (in German) about the early Blue Susanna
Black and White (Bonn, 1969)
Binger Menne (g, voc), GH (g, voc)
I hardly knew how to play the guitar at the time, but already performed as acoustic duo with a blond friend at the time. We knew perhaps 10 songs, of which I only remember "Ginny come lately". Binger was blond, I had dark hair....
