WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR SOME BAKE SALE VOLUNTEERS FOR THE FIRST CONCERT!

Looking for an easy way to contribute to our band community?  Our first concert is this week on Wednesday, October 10, and we are looking for volunteers to bring baked goods to sell at our concert and also to help staff our bake sale.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact Jennifer Snyder at jlsnyder00@hotmail.com.  If you can bring baked goods, we are looking for finger food (e.g., cookies) that can be sold for $1 each (i.e., not too tiny).

GRANT BAND REPRESENTATIVE NEEDED FOR OCTOBER PTA MEETING TOMORROW!

We are looking for a Grant Band parent to attend the PTA Meeting tomorrow.  At the end of last school year, we moved Grant Band under the Grant PTA and the PTA has been very supportive of us. They’d really appreciate Grant Band representation at their meetings.   Please consider attending tomorrow!

We have created a spreadsheet of dates and thought it would be nice if 8 different Grant Band parents could sign up to each attend ONE Grant PTA meeting to represent Grant Band. It’s a super easy job. Show up, take a few notes - maybe acknowledge that you’re there on behalf of Grant Band. After the meeting, jot down anything relevant to Grant Band in the notes section of the spreadsheet

JOIN THE PTA.

The PTA supports so many programs throughout the school, including Grant Band, and their membership is appallingly low. She asked that we include a link in our newsletter to sign up. Here are directions to sign up for Grant High School PTA:

- Go to School Pay and log in.

- On the left side of the page, click on “Nonprofit Groups.’

- Make your $25 donation.

SWEET SOUND OF JAZZ - FIRST PLANNING MEETING

This Sunday, October 14th from 4-5 p.m., we'll meet to begin planning our largest band fundraiser of the year - the Sweet Sound of Jazz (SSOJ) – which will be held on Saturday 2/2/18 at the German American Society.

We’ll hold Sunday’s meeting in the home of Kelly McCollum (3314 NE 47th Ave). Our primary goal will be to come up with a theme, with Mr. McFadden’s help. We'll also give an overview of SSOJ and discuss the help we need to make this event happen. Most of last year’s planning team is returning, which is awesome! However, we do need additional help to keep the amount of work each person has to do to a minimum.

Here are committees we need more volunteers for:

If you can’t help with these committees, but want to help where you can, please contact Kelly McCollum. We welcome every bit of help and support! Also, we welcome anyone to attend the planning meetings even if you can’t sign up for a particular committee

Thank you for doing what you can to help make this fundraiser a success!

PTA BAND BOOSTERS NEED YOU!

It takes a community to maintain this robust and growing band program. For the past two years, the boosters have been gently nudging our community in the hope someone will step in and assume the role of president-elect. Unfortunately, this gentle nudging has been unsuccessful.

This is my third and final year as president and I would really like the opportunity to help someone learn the ropes and get comfortable with things before stepping down next year. As president-elect you will attend monthly meetings and prepare to assume the duties of president the following year. Don't be shy if you are a new parent at Grant, I stepped in as President-Elect when my now senior daughter was a freshman. This is a very welcoming and supportive group that includes others with experience and knowledge. I have enjoyed being president and plan to remain an active member of boosters next year, so I will still be around to help with any questions that come up. Please consider this opportunity to help the band community thrive. Feel free to contact me with any questions!!

-MaryBeth Hernandez

Thank you to all of the parents who joined us in September, we hope you'll consider staying involved throughout the year. We also look forward to seeing new faces at our next meeting which will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 6:30pm at the home of Jenn Farmer (6270 NE Failing Street). Parents are always welcome at all Band Boosters Meetings!

FUNDRAISING

Our first month of coffee sales was fantastic - we sold 550 bags!  Stay tuned for details about delivery and future orders.

Restaurant Partnerships- Do you know of any potential restaurants to host a Grant Band fundraiser? If so, please let Mr. McFadden know. We'd like to organize a night out for Grant Band families to dine together and have the restaurant donate some of the profit from the event back to Grant Band.

Fair Share- Fair Share is a way of including as many families as possible in the financial support of Grant Band. As many of you know, running the band program costs money - and lots of it! In order to meet our fundraising goals, the suggested contribution for each student is $200 ($300 for the family if you have more than one student). There are several ways to contribute to a student's fair share:

Of course, any amount of fundraising is always encouraged and helps support the program. If you meet your $200 goal early in the year, we welcome your additional support with fundraising to help students who may have a harder time reaching this goal. Questions? Please feel free to contact Mr. McFadden or MaryBeth Hernandez, Band Booster President.

Students in Wind and/or Jazz Ensemble, should focus on raising funds for the trip first, then Fair Share.
