999

10 December 2009

A couple of Days ago I had to phone 999 due to a medical issue we experienced in our family. Thankfully everyone involved has come through it unskaved.

I just felt compelled to write about the experience on my blog. I normally reserve this site for non personal things that I have opinions or do something with, but I was so impressed with the emergency services that I simply had to write about it here.

At about 19:30 the need arrised and we had to phone 999 for one of our family members. In short CPR had to be performed while we where on the phone to the emergency services. I was shocked when the paramedics arrived at our home aproximately 3 (or so) minutes after we made the call. The guy who arrived (I wish I knew his name) was very fast, knew exactly what to do to take control of the situation, and made sure the patient was looked after in the best possible way. He was also able to calm us down by keeping us abreast of everything that was happening and giving us that feeling that things where under control in a very stressful situation.

A couple of minutes later, the ambulance arrived. Again, these people just helped out in every way.

The hospital staff was perfectly helpfull, going above and beyond the job. Our Doctor must have stayed on for about 2 hours after her shift at finished just to make sure we where being lookied after and the patient was okay.

I have alwasy said that I would never be able to do Emergency Response work. I believe it takes a special type of person to do that job, and I simply am not one of them. The ambulance staff came around later (while we where still in the A&E to check how things where progressing). When I thanked them for what they had done for us, the response was that there was no need...

I think these people need a big Thank You. I don't know what else can be done since I don't think anything would ever measure up to the magnitude of what they meant that night. These people are amazing.

Thanks again.
