App-IE Proxy

As a notebook user, I use my notebook at the office and at home and at clients locations etc... The issue is that for most places other than at the office, I need to disable the proxy server in IE to allow me to connect back onto the Internet. In IE, which is my favourite browser, you have to open the Tools menu and then select "Internet Options", then select the "Connections" tab, then click "Lan Settings", which then opens yet another dialog box where you can finally disable your proxy server.

Applications like IE7Pro make this nice and easy, but then you have to install an add-on which many administrators frown upon.

So I set out to create a lightweight solution to my requirement.

IE Proxy is a Windows .Net application which lives in your system tray (next to the clock). By default it will show up as a black Internet Explorer icon indicating that your proxy server is enabled. Right-click on this icon and uncheck the "Proxy" item and the icon turns to a white Internet Explorer icon indicating that your proxy is disabled.

No Installation required. Simply download the zip file and extract it somewhere to your machine. My documents/IE Proxy is a simple option. Now Click Start > All Programs > and Right-Click on Startup and select Open. In there, create a shortcut to the IEProxy.exe file you unzipped. If you don't want to restart your machine, simply double click the exe, but once you copy the shortcut into Startup, it will automatically load ito your system tray every time you start your computer.

To remove it, simply remove the shortcut you created in Startup and delete the IEProxy.exe file.

System requirements: A windows machine with .Net installed.
