Earning and Reporting Hours

Master Gardener Interns need to accumulate 35 volunteer hours during a two year period to move on to "Advanced Master Gardener," the first badge in the MG series.

After achieving "Advanced Master Gardener." each person needs to accumulate 12 volunteer hours and 6 educational hours per year to remain in the program.

If a Master Gardener quits volunteering and recording hours, but wants to resume after a period of time, it is possible. Usually the Master Gardener should resume participation within four years of stopping participation. There is information about this below in the right column.

There are two ways to record your volunteer and education hours. One way is on a special form. There is a link to a PDF copy (and other formats) of the paper hours form at the bottom of this page.

The other way to record hours is using Purdue's online form. A link, an explanation (including two videos) of how to use the Purdue MG online form is located on this website.

This information comes from the Purdue Master Gardener Program Policy Guide,
