About GCMGA

Who are the Gibson County Master Gardeners?

Master Gardeners are located in every state, and most regions within each state. The Master Gardener program is typically offered and sponsored through universities in both the United States and Canada. Purdue University Extension Service sponsors Master Gardeners in Indiana. The Gibson County Master Gardeners are proud to be part of that organization.

The Master Gardener Program provides home horticulture training to individuals who volunteer in their communities, teaching people more about growing plants and providing plant-related information and technical assistance about gardening and home horticulture.

The Gibson County Master Gardeners donate their time and talents to members of the Gibson County community and provide individuals with gardening assistance. They sponsor speakers, seminars and offer their support to the residents and organizations. Current projects of the Gibson County Master Gardeners are located here.

Gibson County Master Gardeners meets on the third Monday between March and November. They usually invite a speaker from the area who makes a presentation on a gardening topic. The public is invited to all meetings free of charge. Meeting times, dates, location and topics are usually note on the main page of this website.

How Can I Become a Certified Master Gardener?

You can become a certified Master Gardener by taking an informal 12-week noncredit course, offered through the Purdue University Extension Service. Teachers are usually agriculture faculty from Purdue and Vincennes University as well as experts from reputable garden centers. Manuals and all course materials are provided. Not everyone who takes the course becomes a certified Master Gardener, but those who attend learn a great deal about growing and maintaining plants. You can find out more by talking with a Master Gardener or calling the Gibson County Extension Office at 812-385-3491.
