Mastodon

Mastodon, New Mexico

Dona Ana County

Elevation 4,112

Mastodon is located about 8 miles west of El Paso, Texas.  This town was a siding and water station along the El Paso & Southwestern Railroad.  Remains include a few concrete foundations to buildings.  The foundation to the water tank is only a few feet from NM Highway 9 on the north side of the road.  NM 9 is what used to be the railroad bed.

This is the foundation to the Mastodon water tank.  The Franklin Mountains near El Paso, Texas are seen in the background.
