A water stop and siding along the El Paso & Southwestern Railroad. Just a few foundations and piles of rubble remain. Once a loading point for cinders mined from Guzmans Lookout Mountain, a volcanic cinder cone, located about 2 miles to the northeast. The word Malpais meand "bad lands" in spanish, which describes the rugged lava flows and volcanic cinder cones in the area.

This flat area used to be where volcanic cinders from the Malpais Quarry were stored. Camel Mountain is seen in the background.

A concrete foundation and bricks are the remains of one of the several structures that used to stand at Malpais.
