GCB celebrated its 5th anniversary in a grand ceremony on 25th July 2015 at Royal Taj (formerly Orissa) in Bradford.
In attendance were dignitaries from the Ghana High Commission, representatives of the National Council of Ghana Unions (NCGU), Executives and leaders of various Ghanaian and African national unions all across the country.
The event also marked the day the association was inaugurated. The inauguration was done by Mr Kofi Addo,
who is the Trade and Investment minister from the Ghana High Commission. Mr Addo represented the
Ghana Higher Commissioner who is currently away to Ghana on official duties. Mr Addo was assisted
by Dr Quaye Botchway (NCGU) and Naa Tsotsoo (London).
In a speech read on her behalf, the Lord Mayor of Bradford apologized for her inability to be personally.
She congratulated the Association of their numerous achievements thus far and said, 'l know of your
close involvement with this council's Youth Service an the work you have done in channeling the energies
of your people into various sporting activities and l hope the health and bonding benefits of such pursuits
are making themselves evident among the young people'.
She concluded by wishing the GCB well and commended them for raising funds for Autistic Children in Ghana.
Dr Quaye Botchway on his part congratulated the GCB and recounted the progress he has personally witness
since the formation of the Association. He recall attending GCB's Ghana Independence celebration three years
ago and was impressed by the organisational skills and commitment of it members. He also used the occasion
to outline the objectives and rational of the newly established National Council of Ghana Unions (NCGU)
of which he is the interim Chair.
Dr Botchway concluded by leading the gathering to sing 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY' to GCB
The Children's Department of GCB and I.S.E. Entertainment provided entertainment on the night.
The Children sang Ghanaian patriotic songs and recited poems which recounted the history of Ghana
and its national colours. I.S.E Entertainment wow the crowd with their performance of various street dance routine.
