GCB ORGANISES TRIP TO ROYAL ARMOURIES, LEEDS
In line with article 4.1.8 of the GCB constitution, which
aims ‘to promote community cohesion, mutual understanding, tolerance and respect in the interest of social welfare and the provision of facilities for recreation and other leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the conditions of life of those persons who have need of such facilities by reason of their age, disability or economic circumstances’, an educational trip to the Royal Armouries in Leeds was organised by the GCB on Saturday 11th August, 2011
Over forty children and their parents took part in the excursion to the museum and its environs.
The group left Bradford with a rented bus at 11:15 a.m. On arrival the Chairman of the Association, Wisdom, led the group into the museum having made all prior arrangements. The group toured all 4 floors starting from the Oriental Gallery on the 4th floor where the children were treated to a short movie. The group went through all the major galleries which included the Tournament Gallery, the War Gallery, The Hunting Gallery, the Self Defence Gallery, and ended it all at the Court of Henry VIII.
Half way the tour, the group broke off for a picnic lunch in the fore court of the Museum. Afterwards, and in light with the Olympic spirit which had swept the whole country, the children and some of the more daring parents took part in sprint races on the fore court. Some members also went on a boat ride while all the children enjoyed a visit to a stationary sub-marine in the River Aire from the Clarence Dock next to the museum. The group returned to Bradford at 6pm. Due to the success and encouraging participation the group is already planning their next educational trip before school opens.
The excursion was partly funded by Bradford Trident.

GCB REPRESENTATIVES MEET WITH NEW LORD MAYOR CLLR. DALE SMITH
The newly elected Lord Mayor of Bradford Cllr, Dale Smith has granted audience to four representatives of the Ghanaian Community in Bradford (GCB). The meeting took place in the Lord Mayor's Office in the City Hall at 11:00am on 1st June, 2012.The four members present at the meeting were Messrs Wisdom Sateklah -Chairman of the Association, Ben Tetteh - the Secretary, Al-Amin Al- Hassan - the Organiser and Kwabina Atta - the Patron. Also present at the meeting was Lady Mayoress, Mrs Margaret Smith.
The meeting was called by the Executives of the GCB to, among others, welcome the new Lord Mayor who was installed only 11 day ago to his new office, to discuss issues of mutual concern, and to assure the Lord Mayor and his office of the continued support of the Ghanaian community.
The meeting afforded both parties the opportunity to express their views on Bradford and moving the City forward, and especially for the Lord Mayor to reiterate his desire of working with communities such as ours in that regard.
He advised community leaders to get involve in as many decision making activities within the City as possible to ensure our concerns and grievances are heard. He also called on all parents, especially Ghanaians and ethnic minorities, not to shy away from volunteering to be patrons of schools their children attend. According to him, that is one good avenue to influence the policies and programmes that affects our children's education, and hence their attitudes and abilities.
The Lord Mayor said, while he had been involved in several other organisations with similar objectives as ours, he will be keenly looking forward to attending some of other events and activities as his way of getting to know more about the Ghanaian and African communities within Bradford as well as sharing in our success story.
