Strategic Planning

I am a fervent believer in using strategic planning to convert vision into effective action.  This is accomplished through a collaborative approach with input from advisory boards, faculty/staff committees, and the leadership team. which builds consensus and awareness among constituents. Once complete, I use strategic plans to create tactical yearly objectives within a Microsoft Project Plan in which tasks are sequenced and resources assigned. These are then incorporated into the annual expectations of all of the staff within my organization and developed as annual charges for various committees. This ensures that the plan is a living document, and that progress towards goals and objectives is achieved and assessed regularly.

Penn State University (PSU) was one of the first institutions in academia to adopt strategic planning and is considered a national leader in using the process. I was involved in developing the PSU Commonwealth College’s component of the University’s strategic plan, and was an ongoing member of the institutional effectiveness committee that monitored its progress.  I have written numerous strategic and tactical plans in my many leadership positions, examples of which can be viewed below.
