From a technical point of view, one isn't superior to the other.
From a historical point of view, the T568A is based on an older phone standard while the T568B is following a commercial standard and is most commonly used.
Whatever you use, it really doesn't matter as long as both ends of the cable are treated with the same standard!
For my own home installation, I've always followed T568B.

I've always wondered why those clever people haven't kept it very simple.
Each UTP cable contains 4 pairs, each pair as a "full" coloured wire and a "striped-with-white" wire.
Orange and orange/white
Blue and blue/white
Green and green/white
Brown and brown/white
Both T568A as well as T568B have one pair which is "separated" from each other. For T568A it is the orange/orange-white and for T568B it' is the green/green-white pair for which the coloured and the white-striped wires are not adjacent to one another.
Absolutely no clue why this is. It would make composing an ethernet cable also much more easy since you wouldn't have to twist wires on top of each other. Which you need to do now...
PS: in the past there was also such thing as a cross-over cable. There was even more fiddling with such a cable. But nowadays the ethernet ports are clever enough and know by themselves if cross-over is needed or not. If needed, this happens internally and the use of cross-over cables is something of the past (like so many computer related things already are...)
