Mr. Roy Gaw

Mr. Gaw has been instructing Elementary through High School percussion students here in Gaffney for about 7yrs now. A strong believer in creating a solid rudimental foundation to build upon, he began offering Summer & Fall Rudimental Workshops to Gaffney Band students about 5years ago. In the Fall of 2014, students of the Fall Workshop were asked “Who wants to be state champions?” For the first time ever, Gaffney entered an Elementary/Middle School unit in Marching Competitions. And in his proudest moment of the academic year, he watched from the stands as his 5^th grade Captain accepted the medal as the leader of the 2015 SCBDA PERCUSSION SCHOLASTIC CADET (Middle School) WINTER ENSEMBLES STATE CHAMPIONS. In the 2016 Winter Season, both Gaffney's Varsity Percussion Ensemble and the JV Indoor Ensemble (Elementary/Middle School) earned the BRONZE at SCBDA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS... The Elementary/Middle School kids competed in HIGH SCHOOL NOVICE DIVISION earning the BRONZE Medal in the SCBDA Scholastic Novice Division, then turned around one week later to accomplish the BRONZE Medal in CWEA Circuit Championships, finishing ahead of both of the high schools that medaled ahead of them the previous week.

Past experiences include 8yrs touring the Continental USA and Canada with his band comprised of mostly Berklee College of Music students like himself, and as a Percussion Instructor/performer for the "CHROME WALL" in the elite NORTHSTAR Drum & Bugle Corp**.
