July 2008 (Mileage 137,000)

7/19/2009 California Speedway

Seems appropriate to start a new page with Cal Speedway. This time at Redline Time Attack. Real quick notes:

    • New wheels and tires, just purchased this week for the event. OZ Superleggara, 18 x 8" with Kumho Tires. Tires were definately the week point. The tires I had counted on, Bridgestone S-03's, fell through.
    • Ran a 2:03.13 in practice Saturday, six seconds slower that my best NASA time on R-compounds.
    • Turbo housing cracked during the first practice session Sunday, so no official Time Attack run time was posted.

New Projects and Issues:

    • Pull the cold side housing and repair or replace.
    • Need aero and belly pan installed.
    • Transponder was not working. Check wiring.

Buttonwillow Audi Club Prep

    • Turbo housing repaired by Twins Turbo
    • Belly pan bracket installed so pan is ready to go back on
    • Reinstalled wiring for transponder. Properly hooked up into the main circuit with fused link.
    • Added two new Dzus fittings into the bumper for additional strength
    • Moved wiring and N75 away from the heat
    • Rerouted hoses that were rubbing
    • Adjusted the brake pedal to master linkage to eliminate dragging and/or double pumping issue

Current issues

    • Rough idle and flashing check engine light. Suspect it is fuel related. Pulled codes with Dave Kan, missing on cylinder 2&4. Swapped plugs and added some miracles in a can, heat and injector cleaner. Also scheduled it to go into Beach House Imports to be looked at. Needs to get smogged.

Fuel Issue Resolved 12/31/2008

Beach House could not find the problem, although they did find a boost leak under the intake. The R&R for that was $300. The car barely made it back home though it ran so poorly.

Talked to Jeff Moss and he suggested looking for a leak at the injectors by spraying carb cleaner. With that technique I found #4 injector with a huge leak. Pulled the rail and found that one of the injectors had lost it's clip and dropped too deep into the intake causing a leak. The injector was stuck in the intake and it's nylon washer dropped into the intake/engine when the injector was removed. The repair then required that the intake manifold be removed to retrieve it. Also replaced the injector.

Car was out of service at least seven months this year!

Finally running good again today! In addition I bought a replacement for the old cracked junction box.

    • Replaced junction box on R.H. side of engine bay.
