Inner German Border

A bit of a takeback into darker times. Experience the Berlin Wall and inner german border as it was from 1945 til 1990. Both look and composition of the border obstacles is highly generic since the real border adapted to its surroundings in terms of the amount of "layers" and the shape and size of observation posts and bunkers.

The scenery was made based on vector data on the course of the border and Berlin Wall. The number of points for the vector line was manually reduced to streamline the look in FSX. The ground texture is hand made and adapts to FSX' seasonal textures. The autogen objects for the border were converted from Google Warehouse models and touched up by me in 3ds Max or made myself and they use FSX' autogen placement alogrithms. Therefor, you will see some visual oddities on slopes and corners. Highway car traffic will also not be affected by the border scenery in any way.

The scenery requires editing of the terrain.cfg, so installation is not for the faint of heart!

It plays well with Ultimate Terrain X v1 and maybe also with v2 and FTX.

More pictures and information can be found in the thread on FSDeveloper.

This add-on is possibly 64 bit (P3D v4, FSW) compatible!*

(*Compatibility depends on P3Dv4's handling of terrain.cfg.)

Features

The scenery can basically be divided into three parts: The inner german border, the Berlin Wall and assorted Berlin scenery objects.

  1. The inner german border that ran for about 1400 kilometers between the baltic coast and the corner of Saxonia, Bavaria and the Czech Republic. It's mainly composed of fences, lampposts and blocky observation towers. On the ground, there is a mine strip on either side of the patrol path.

  2. Around West Berlin, there's the famous "Berlin Wall", which is depicted in its later state with tall concrete walls facing West Berlin and a somewhat smaller wall and a fence facing East Berlin with round observation towers. The ground texture has a single mine strip toward West Berlin.

  3. Scenery objects for Berlin to backdate it a bit. See the destroyed Reichstag (actually ahistorical since it was marginally rebuilt in the early 1960s), a new model for the Brandenburger Tor, the KaDeWe, Deutschlandhalle and both Red Army Memorials and a few more.
