Quickstart Guide:
Here are a few basic things you should know before playing.
Fallout: Decay is, at its core, about scavenging and surviving.
This guide well help you get started, but make sure you understand the basic rules before playing
RESOURCES & SCAVENGING:
One thing to know is that you will need Resources. Resources refer to Scrap, Small Parts, and Chemicals, all of which are materials needed to craft anything.
To acquire resources, you will need to find world props scattered around the map, such as most broken down vehicles (some are built into the map and can't be removed), TV's, Engines, and Biohazard Barrels.
Once you find one of the above, press your Use key while looking at them to begin Scavenging . After a couple seconds, you may or may not be given a small amount of the corresponding resources. For instance, Cars and Small Parts, and Biohazard Barrels give you Chemicals.
You will not always receive resources from Scavenging, and after enough searches, the object you are Scavenging will disappear and you will need to move onto a new source of Resources.
While Scavenging, you may notice random "props" falling out of the object you are scavenging. Those are actually Parts and Items, while some of them may not have an immediate use, they can be used in crafting. If you press F2 on them, you will automatically pick it up and store it in your inventory if you have enough space.
OBTAINING WEAPONS:
All players have access to a large arsenal of weapons, but you'll have to earn these weapons yourself. There are two types of weapons in this game. Firearms and melee weapons.
Practically all melee weapons can be found by scavenging, and they're fairly common. Finding a melee weapon should be your first goal.
Melee weapons range from lead pipes and crowbars to axes and machetes, they are all different and have their own damage, range and swing delay.
Melee weapons that aren't knives can block incoming melee attacks. You can block with your secondary attack key (Right Click).
Firearms can only be obtained by crafting them. Engineers can craft most firearms, but they'll require a workbench to do so.
ARMOR
Armor in Decay is a unique feature to Frostburnt. When worn it will negate damages from different sources respectively, impede players movement, and may slightly restrict vision due to helmet overlays.
Armor can be obtained by crafting, check the "armors" tab in the crafting menu.
Armor is treated as a piece of equipment like a weapon, and will be dropped in your suitcase upon bleed-out.
CHAT:
Chat is limited on this Gamemode. If you send a message normally, only players near you will be able to see it.
Type /yell or /y to send a message a little farther away than normal
Type /whisper or /w to whisper, only people very close to you will see these messages.
If you want to talk out of character, but not to the whole server you can use local ooc. This is the same as ooc, but local like normal chat. You can use looc with .// or /looc
If you want to show that your character is performing an action, you can use /me. for instance: /me warms his hands over the fire.
DOOR OWNERSHIP:
Press F11 while looking at a door to own it.
Use your keys "weapon" to lock and unlock the door. Press Mouse 1 (Left mouse button) to Unlock the door, and Mouse 2 (right mouse button) to lock it.
Using your Reload Key on the door will allow you to add owners to the door, so other people can lock/unlock it.
INVENTORY:
You can access your inventory at any time by pressing F3, or by pressing the inventory tab from the menu screen.
You can only carry so much at a time. The amount you can carry can be upgraded with the strength skill .
CRAFTING:
Once you feel you have enough Resources, you can press F4 to open the Crating menu. From here, you can view the various things you can make. It also tells you how much of what you need to make it, and if you hover over the icon long enough on some Items, it will tell you required Parts you need in addition to Resources.
CHARACTER MENU:
The character menu is a feature unique to Frostburnt, and shows your Armor, it's stats, your Health, Hunger, Thirst and irradiation level measured in rads. You can hover over the bars to see their exact values.
You can access the Character menu by holding tab.
The Character Menu shows all of your currently equipped weapons and ammo. From this screen you can drop or store these items directly.
To store an item, simply click the "Inv" button, and to drop it, press "drop". You can also equip an item quickly be clicking on it's icon.
You can drop or inventory armor by clicking the corresponding button at the bottom of the armor stats panel.
THIRST & HUNGER:
You may have noticed you have Thirst and Hunger meters on the top left of your HUD.
Hunger will always slowly decrease. If it hits 0, you will take a set number of damage every short amount of time down to 15, and your stamina will plummet. To avoid this, simply eat a food item.
Thirst will always decrease slightly faster than hunger, and will effect stamina in the same way as hunger. It will also deplete your health, and unlike hunger when your health will decrease to 0, ultimately killing you.
Food can be acquired by killing certain mobs (whom randomly drop raw meat), bought from player vending machines, cooked by cultivators or by random drops from Scavenging objects.
Water Can be drank from any water source with your Use Key, but the water will always be dirty. Dirty water will give you some rads. You can also bottle the water with empty water bottles, allowing you to drink it anywhere. Bottles of dirty water can be purified on a stove with a kettle by cultivators.
SWITCHING CHARACTERS AND CLASSES:
To switch your character, you will have to rejoin to return to the character selection menu.
To switch Classes , go to the Tab/F3/F4 menu and click the classes tab. Upon switching classes, you will lose 10% of each available resource on you.
Radiation
The aftermath of nuclear warfare has left it's mark on the world; most bodies of water in the wasteland are lightly irradiated, and even more areas are brimming with harmful radiation.
Some mutants in the wasteland can even use radiation as a weapon against you. It is important to note what enemies utilize radiation and take appropriate measures when engaging them.
Radiation can causes you to slow down based on your radiation level, and cause even more harm at higher levels. You can cure radiation sickness slowly overtime, or by taking anti-radiation drugs.
DEATH:
When your health falls to 0, you will fall on the ground and start to bleed out. While you're bleeding out, you may be able to be revived by a defibrillator, or you can choose to respawn instantly.
On your inital death, you will lose 10 percent of your current XP points, however being revived will recover this.
In the event that you start to bleed out, you will lose 10 percent of each resource currently on you.
Things in your safe inventory accessed by F3 will not be dropped.
after you begin to bleed out, you will drop a suitcase containing some of the resources you dropped, and any weapons you have equipped. Any player can take from this suitcase, so be wary.
