PostnukeRP - The foundation of Fallout Decay
In a Nutshell
PostnukeRP is gamemode that strives to combine the serious roleplay elements of surviving an apocalypse while still being an enjoyable game to play. Unlike other Roleplay gamemodes, the player is set free to do what they want to do in the wasteland without limitations such as applying on the forums to join a faction or rolling the dice to determine the outcome of a conflict. You can be whatever you'd like to whether that be the traveling merchant, the Marauding bandit, the mercenary out for whatever brings you the best pay,the doctor dedicated to providing care for people, or much more. The wasteland's the limit.
Actual Gameplay
A lot of RP servers like to enforce this sort of state of RP called "Passive RP" Where you stand around and wait for an admin to initiate some sort of event. Now if you prefer that, it's still an option, but honestly who the heck wants to stand around all day and wait for the admins to do something when you can initiate it yourself? The Gamemode has a built in mob, resource and loot spawning system. The wasteland is not much of a safe place with monsters and mutants running wild, and since the gamemode has a built in hunger and thirst system you'll have to worry about keeping yourself supplied as well; the game is all about survival. Explore the wasteland and scavenge for resources, weapons, food and other supplies, All the while honing your skills with XP collected from the monsters you defeat.
Player driven
While the gamemode has a lot of dynamic systems for creating things to do for the player, players can still have freedom to make their own events. The gamemode has a built in community system, allowing you to create your own community and invite anyone you'd like. What your community is about is up to you, and being a part of a community has several benefits. The game also has a built in war declaration system so that if you're not fond of a particular faction, you can declare war on them. Additionally if a community commits an act of war such as killing another faction's members or raiding a stockpile, it counts as sending a war request which the other party can turn in to a full war.
Fallout: Decay
So, as some people may have noticed the server is titled "Fallout: Decay" And you may be wondering what this means. Well, Frostburnt Foundation is not the primary developer of PostnukeRP. PostnukeRP was originally created by Radioactive cricket. It was primarily programmed by Eldarstorm and LostIntheWired and hosted on the official server by The Builder's Union. After they released the gamemode for public use, we re-imagined the game, adding and replacing many of the features, and reprogramming most of the gamemode's backend programming in order to make the gamemode more stable. Here are most of the key changes that have been applied to our server and why this server is completely different from the official server... So different we have to make our own wiki! I will list as many changes as I can remember that I have already made, but for minor updates you can review the change log. Also keep in mind that this wiki is still in the works.
New Firearms
By default, PNRP didn't have very many weapons and they didn't do much, they just shot, reloaded and lowered. On PostnukeRP overhauled, the weapon system is using an entirely different base; Fas2 , which use a complex attachment system. Players can attach various sights, grips, grenade launchers and laser sights to their weapons. These weapons also have many different firemodes and features, as well as nice touches such as a stats menu, reload time indicator, varying hold types based on how the player is holding the weapon, weapon melee bashing and many other features. Not only are we using a different base, we have added a ton of new weapons that are not available in the official versions of the gamemode, more snipers, assault rifles, sidearms, Sub Machine Guns and LMGs.
Melee Weapons
Not big on firearms? There are also melee weapons such as a lead pipe, fire axe, machete, broken bottle shiv, shovel ect, ect. All of these weapons are using a base that I have made from scratch and they boast several features such as being integrated in to the stamina system, dynamic hit detection (no they don't shoot five feet invisible bullets) and functional blocking mechanics.
NPCS
A wasteland is't complete without it's assortment of atrocities. In fact, it's brimming with a wide variety of mutants ranging from viscous dogs to giant ants. The NPCs AI has been made in house from scratch for our server and are fully reactive to the world, gamemode functions and player. They also are incredibly smart, and will chase you until you hide from them!
Redone Interface
All of the interface assets have been remade from scratch to look how we feel they should look. They follow the futuristic wasteland theme, and they certainly look better.
The HUD has also been made from scratch and supports user specified colors, scaling and toggle able elements.
We have also fixed most of the grammatical and spelling errors, and remade the descriptions for many items to be more fitting.
Character Creation
The PostnukeRP Enhanced server features a unique character creation system. The character selection and creation menu have been remade from scratch and support a highly customizable character creation system. You can select your gender, hair style, beard style, hair color and under armor. You can also chose between being a normal human and a Ghoul, a mutated human which will drastically change the way you play the gamemode as ghouls depend on radiation, while normal humans are harmed by it.
Complex Systems
Many systems have been implemented to make the gamemode more interesting. Water collection system has been perfected in order to allow cultivators to peddle water, and a fully functional radiation system has been built into the gamemode. Parts of the map will be irradiated and will build up a player's "Radiation level". Higher rads for normal human characters will make them get sick and move more slowly, however, radiation for ghouls will allow them to increase their endurance and heal themselves.
Armor and Clothing
The gamemode features a fully fledged armor system. There are many different options for armor and all armors provide different protections from different damage sources. Some armors are good against ballistics, but bad against melee and vice versa. Armors have different weight to them, some slowing you down or making you faster due to servo's built into them. There are also helmets and headgear, allowing you to mix and match armor pieces. The armor and clothing ties into the character creation system, so you can wear most armors and still have your head visible, unless you're wearing your helmet.
Re-worked skills and classes
We have added several perks to getting your skills up, as well as expanding and replacing some skills. This is still ongoing, but so far we have remade the "BackPacking" Skill in to the "Strength" skill, which effects your carry weight, and damage with all melee weapons and fists, it even effects the damage your weapon bashing does!
We've also overhauled the cultivator class; The cost for pots and pans is lower and the player has to craft a stove, the player can then upgrade the stove to cook higher tiers of food.
Re-worked needs
Endurance? Sleep? The sleeping requirement was a bit unfitting. People randomly perishing from hunger or falling asleep in the middle of roleplay was very common and just gamebreaking, therefore you no longer die from hunger and instead of worrying about endurance you must drink water or other drinks to keep your thirst up, You can drink from water sources, fill water bottles and purify them with stoves. Having no hunger or no thirst will negativity effect your stamina as well.
Fixes
We've fixed a lot of things that haven't been fixed for years, patching bugs and clamping down on exploits. We've also corrected a multitude of grammatical and spelling errors.
PAC3
The latest version of PAC3, or Player Appearance Customizer is mounted to the server always, and what this plugin does is allow you to edit your character. Basically attaching models to any part of your body, there's a lot more that you can do with it, but I can't explain it all here. I can just say that with tool you can truly personalize your character, the only limiting factor is the rules (obviously it can be abused) and your skill. Use of PAC3 required the ownership of a "Pac Projector" item, which can be crafted by scavenging resources. To see some of the outfits people have made, check this thread out.
WIP
We listen to our community on feedback and bug reporting. If you go to the changelog, you may find rather frequent updates. this is because we are updating the gamemode constantly based on feedback from our players. If you leave the server for a bit, be prepared to come back to a few new features!
Hassle Free content delivery
A consistent trend with popular roleplay servers is to require you to donwload 3+ different content packs, half of which are on the workshop while the other half are on some slow download server, we don't want to do any such thing on our servers. All of our Content is small enough that it can be download off of our excellent FastDL server; All you need to do is join. The rest of the content which you can expect to find for the maps is packed in to the map files themselves. We have taken extra steps to edit the maps we play on by packing all of the custom content in to the bsp, meaning that all you need is the bsp, which is also downloaded from the server, to see all of the content for the map, we also compress and optimize the content so the maps can always be only around 300mb. This means, that for the initial content you'll only have to download it for 3-7 minutes, while the map will take 2-5. This is an exceptable wait time considering some of the other server's which can take you longer than half an hour to join with good internet, but really keep it mind it does come down to your internet connection.
For more about what goes in to setting up our maps, check out this thread.
FAQ
Some frequently asked questions with answers.
Can I attack/kill anyone I see?
Only on our Secondary No rules Experiment server, on the Primary roleplay server, you can not..
Why can't I kill anyone for any reason I see fit on the roleplay server?
Because the Primary server is for people who want to roleplay as characters from Fallout that don't shoot on sight for no reason, yet still get to experience the survival aspects the gamemode has to offer such as scavenging, hunger, thirst, radiation, crafting and NPC combat. The role of 'bandits' on the primary server is filled by Raider NPCs which have been developed in house for the gamemode. if you are interested in Frostburnt Foundation's current project to create a game without rules, yet still allow for people to roleplay more freely, Resurgence, please check out this forum thread.
Who is the developer of PostnukeRP/Fallout:Decay?
The original gamemode was created by Radioactive Cricket and hosted on the TBU server by Eldarstorm and LostinTheWired. However, the original version of the gamemode has been heavily modified, optimized, personalized, remade and expanded upon by Bizzclaw in order to make the gamemode a more enjoyable experience. It has been changed so much in fact, that it has been renamed in to "Fallout: Decay".
Why does the server have so much Fallout Content?
The inclusion of Fallout content was more of a gradual thing as when the server was created, it was never intended to become so much like Fallout as such as it is seen today. The reason it has changed like this is due to our infatuation with the Fallout series, and also because there is a lack of any better content for most of the things we wish to do.Take the Mutants for example, we personally are getting tired of Zombie games and believed that it was much more enjoyable to survive against a wide variety of dangerous creatures. In order to do this, we needed content, thus you will see many monsters and mutants from Fallout wandering around the server. As more and more Fallout content started being added, it started becoming more and more of a sort of natural shift. Now it's gotten to the point where we are personally porting content from Fallout 3 and New Vegas.
Can I Edit my Character?
Currently, there is no way to edit any value you specify in character creation after the initial creation, however there are plans to add several ways to change different qualities. First however, the system must be finished. It has a lot of work that needs to be done to it. Speaking of updating the character creation system, every time the Character creation system updates, Characters that where created before the last update will be given the opportunity to edit their character to modify parts of themselves as to allow them to mess with new features, but this is only when new features are added. A good example of one of these updates was when Female Characters where added In March 2015.
Can I change the way the tutorial/HUD/Music system works?
If you would like to make any change to some of the many client-side systems of the gamemode such as the HUD, Music System, Ambient Sound System, and so on, you can do so by accessing the "Options Menu". The options menu can be opened by tapping the [TAB] key and clicking on the "Options Menu" button along the right of the menu.
What is the "True Wasteland" Server?
The True Wasteland server is a rebalanced version of the gamemode with some features revised in order to allow for a more free experience. There are no rules or admins to enforce them on the Wasteland server, and as such you are on your own when playing on it and can be killed by anyone for any reason. Despite it's difficulty, there are balancing factors, such as a much higher resource scavenge rate, more common raider drop rates, increased player maximum health and cheaper prices on some objects makes death a little more bearable, seeing as it will happen a lot.
