17) 02/23/2011 Making it all fit

Here's where we left off three days ago, with everything neatly arranged and carefully measured to fit within the slope of the hood. But this is a game of inches, and again I missed an important detail: those cute Bugeye headlamps are recessed into the hood at the corners, and have a half inch lip surrounding the rear portion. The result was that the hood was hanging on the outer edge of the forward batteries and one of the controller to motor cables. About 1.5 inches was needed to clear the interference, so back to the drawing board ...

The changes are subtle, but substantial. The controller has been moved to the rear about four inches. It is angled slightly rear to front since it has climbed the footwell and now is up against the wiper motor. The batteries have been shifted to the rear roughly an inch, but more important, the front batteries have been lowered an inch and a half.

Now we have clearance for the battery pack on the right

and the controller cables on the left.

This all puts a smile on Mr. Bugeye's face!
