Dogs must be at least 12 months old before they start jumping over jumps & doing boxwork. We currently offer foundation skills in addition to equipment training that any dog can engage in.
Of course! Flyball is a sport for dogs of all breeds; in Victoria alone, we have dogs from tiny chihuahuas to giant hounds & everywhere in between. Flyball teams compete in divisions against teams of a similar speed, this means that racing is fair and always exciting!
Not Necessarily. We have many great Pre-Flyball Skills linked, however they are not really "obedience" skills. FDOC does offer great obedience classes if you feel that you need to work on this before doing flyball.
Like us, all dogs learn at different rates, while some dogs may compete within a few months, most dogs take 2 years of training, or longer, before they are ready for competition. We do not pressure any beginner dog to continue flyball training to competition though, and we truely value the fun and enjoyment we have with our dogs over competition.
No. We don't have a set attendance. You are welcome to join us every training week but you may also choose to alternate. This also means if you have other committments, you are not required to attend training.
You do not need to be registered with the AFA to train in flyball, but you will need to register before you can compete as they are sanctioned and run by the AFA. Some demonstrations are also AFA sanctioned which means that you do need to be registered to be involved in these.
Beginner flyball sessions are designed for one dog per handler. If you have two dogs we recommend you bring someone else to train your second dog. If you can't do this we recommend focusing on one dog at a time.
