 Bovine Herd Health Program

Always follow Beef Quality Assurance guidelines

At birth- Make sure calf ingests colostrum within first 24 hours, immunize with Rota & Coronavirus if a problem in the herd if the mother has not already been vaccinated with Scourguard or Scourbos.

One to Three Months

• Immunize for Clostridium (aka Blackleg) vaccine such as Ultrabac 7, Vision 7 or Alpha 7. Booster Ultrabac 7 & Vision 7 in 3-4 weeks

Pre-weaning

• Immunize for Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD), Bovine Respiratory Syncytial Virus (BRSV), Parainfluenza 3 (PI3), Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis using vaccines such as Bovishield Gold FP 5, Virashield 6, Vista 5 or Vista Once PHM (includes Pasteurella Multocida & Mannheimia Haemolytica for pneumonia)- Booster @ 1 yr of age (Virashield needs to be boostered 4-5 weeks later)

Weaning

• Deworm and treat for lice and grubs using an Ivermectin type pour on such as Ivomec or any of the generics, or Dectomax or Cydectin. Rotating dewormers every few years is advisable to prevent resistance.

Replacement Heifers

• Calfhood vaccination (brucella abortus aka bangs) from 4-12 months of age.

• Repeat BVD, BRSV, PI3 & IBR in addition to Vibriosis & Leptospirosis using vaccines such as Pregguard FP 10, or Virashield 6VL5 HB at 1 year of age

Prebreeding Cows

• Immunize for Vibriosis & and Leptospirosis using Tri-vib 5L, Pregguard FP 10, or Virashield 6VL5 HB

• Repeat dewormers

Precalving Cows

• Palpation for pregnancy & mouth check (consider culling open and broken mouthed cows or fertility testing the bulls)

• Repeat BVD, BRSV, PI3 & IBR in addition to Vibriosis & Leptospirosis using vaccines such as Pregguard FP 10, or Virashield 6VL5 HB

• Repeat Clostridium (aka Blackleg) vaccine such as Ultrabac 7, Vision 7 or Alpha 7. Booster Ultrabac 7 & Vision 7

• Immunize for Rota and Coronavirus using Scourbos 9 or Scourguard 4KC

Bulls

• Annually Immunize for BVD, BRSV, PI3 & IBR in addition to Vibriosis & Leptospirosis using vaccines such as Pregguard FP 10, or Virashield 6VL5 HB

• Deworm Annually

• Breeding Soundness Examinations

New Arrivals-

Separate for 10 days before introducing into the herd in case of any stress induced infections.
