The Bakken Family

The Bakken Family

In 1951, 46 years ago, Larry arrived in F.G. along with his father Ole, and his brother, Vince from Whalley's Corner. They set up their sawmill & logging operation on the F.G. Lodge property.

Three months later I arrived with our month old son, Dennis. Upon arrival the first person I met was Ruth Sellars, owner of the F.G. Café and was introduced to her famous, Tutti Fruiti pie.

Some earlier folks we met were the Judsons, Morris, Devores, Dukes, Weavers, Aulds, Tubbs, Sellars, Grahams, Richards, Wilcox, Coburns, Parkins, Whites, Cook, Dares, Redpaths, Hunts, McNeils, Kellets, Nicholsons, Bourgeois, Nadins, Jens, Fitzels, Hunters, Perkins, amongst others.

Our family increased by our two daughters, Vicki & Lori, and what a wonderful place to raise our children. There was never a better town anywhere that showed so much community spirit, and because of the wonderful volunteers many recreation facilities were built, like the race track where sulky and car races were held; the stampede grounds; skating rink; gun range; two curling rinks, natural and artificial; two community halls; ball diamonds; tennis court; library; cemetery; Ruth Lake Park; Anglican & Evangelical Church; and our great Legion.
