Prospective Grad Students
The Scoop on Fordham's Biology Grad Program
What can you expect from the program? How are the classes? What is the neighborhood like? Is the food as good as you've heard? If you need more information or wish to speak to grad students in your prospective lab, feel free to email us at BGSAFordham@gmail.com.
The Program
It's no secret, the first 3 semesters are rough. But if you can make it through, then you will truly enjoy your time at Fordham!
Once you're through with the required courses and comprehensive exams, Fordham has a few courses available to take, with many more available through the NYC Doctoral Consortium.

The Neighborhood
Belmont/Little Italy definitely has it's pros and cons. On one hand, our Little Italy is BETTER than Manhattan's! On the other hand, we don't recommend midnight strolls with your iPhone.
Apartments are plentiful and reasonably priced. Lots of nearby grocery stores offer quality and specialty food. Need we say more than the Arthur Ave Indoor Marketplace? We are close to several subway lines (B, D, 2, 4, 5) and Metro North.
Campus Life
The Graduate Student Association (GSA) hosts two big socials a year (beginning and end) with at least two other bar socials in Manhattan throughout the year.
If you keep your eyes and ears open, you will find poetry slams, stand up comedy, and film screenings all over campus. Plus we have many sports if that suits your fancy.
BGSA Life
The members of the BGSA are fairly social without any formal structure. Many of us live within close proximity to each other and often get together for game nights, dinner, or just watching tv. We frequently head down to Manhattan for a dose of city life and cultureor north for hiking, skiiing, and camping. And of course, all 1st Year BGSA grad students are welcomed to the department with pizza and beer from Pugsley's! We hope you'll chose Fordham!
