dott. Roberta Di Carlo

My name is Roberta Di Carlo and in June 2020 I obtained the PhD in Medical Biotechnologies.

On July 2016 I graduated in Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Technology after a five years degree program.

In October 2016 I attended an English course in Liverpool to improve my language skills.

In December 2016 I passed the exam to have the qualification to work as a pharmacist. I worked for six months in a pharmacy to complete my degree program, and thanks to this experience I had the opportunity to acquire human qualities and pharmacological skills because I was in touch with several patients and so several diseases every day.

I spent two years in the laboratory of Systems Pharmacology and Translational Therapeutics (SPaTT Lab), located at the center of Excellence on aging and Translational Medicine (CeSI-MeT), “G. D’Annunzio” University (Chieti, Italy), under the supervision of Prof. Paola Patrignani. I realized the research program of my thesis entitled “The novel antiplatelet agent Revacept mitigates injury-induced vascular neointima hyperplasia”.

During this experience I had the opportunity to acquire both technical and scientific skills to carry on this project. I learned to combine creativity, innovation, thoroughness, honesty, humanity and capacity to work harmoniously with the component of the research team and I learned several of the main molecular biology techniques (PCR, Western Blot, DNA and RNA extractions), protein assay quantification (Bradford), platelet isolation from whole blood and buffy-coat, quantitative immunoassay (RIA and EIA), preparation of standards and reagents, basic cell culture skills (primary cells, co-culture cell-platelet).
