Health and Safety Protocols
Immediately report all injuries, no matter how small, to your Float/Floral Supervisor AND to the Volunteer Coordinators
Updated 10/30/2025
While every prevention and safety precaution is being taken to keep this a safe activity, participation could lead to serious injury or illness that can have lasting or permanent consequences including death. Participants assume responsibility for their time decorating floats and liability for the consequences thereof.
An inherent risk of exposure to contagious illness, including Covid, exists in any public place where people are present. Covid is an extremely contagious disease that can lead to severe illness and death. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, senior citizens and those with underlying medical conditions are especially vulnerable.
By participating in Float Decorating, each participant or guardian of minor participants voluntarily assumes all risks related to exposure to all contagious illnesses, including Covid.
We are doing all we can to minimize the risk of any illness affecting all decorators, staff, clients, and guests during float decoration. All participants will be expected to contribute to optimizing safety.
We will expect:
If you are sick with ANY contagious illness, please stay home. In an attempt to keep everyone healthy, please refrain from attending if you are not feeling well. If you have any contagious illness, including Covid, or have been exposed to someone with an illness, you are expected to refrain from coming to Float Decorating for any reason. Please visit the CDC website for the most current requirements regarding what you need to do after exposure to contagious illnesses. The latest CDC Guidelines for all current contagious illnesses can be found here.
Face Coverings are Optional in Los Angeles County at this time. Last year many people told us that while the masks are inconvenient, their experience decorating floats was improved because the masks reduced their allergy reactions to the materials we use to build and decorate. You are welcome to, and encouraged, to wear a face covering while indoors.
Each person, or guardian of a minor, must understand that by participating there is a risk of possible exposure to illnesses including the coronavirus that causes Covid. By participating you are agreeing to release all organizers of this activity from fault and responsibility if any participant becomes ill from participation.
