The 2007 soccer season saw many highlights for the Lady Rebels. Their regular season ended in dominating fashion with a record of 18-2-3, and they won both the
District and Regional Tournaments, only to be narrowly defeated in the first round of the State Tournament.
In the regular season, the Lady Rebels outscored their opponents 49-5, including key wins over Brentwood, Siegal, and Pope John Paul II. They also picked up ties against Ravenwood and Father Ryan.
In the District Tournament, the Lady Rebels clobbered Overton 11-0, and defeated Centennial 4-2 and Ravenwood 4-0. They moved on to the Regional Tournament, where they beat Hunter's Lane and Ravenwood with a combined score of 13-0.
In the first round of the State Tournament, the Lady Rebels' season ended in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Siegal in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Making the defeat even more difficult to accept was the fact that this was the Lady Rebels' second straight year to lose to the Siegal Stars.
Juniors Lucy Brient and Kaitlynn Heileman, along with sophomore Anna Grigg, had monster seasons on the stat sheet. All three reached double-digits in goals
and assists. Brient led the team with 38 points, and Grigg and Heileman followed with 37 and 34, respectively.
Other big contributors offensively, were Laurena Robinson, Hannah Rothrock, and Morgan Zigelsky.
On the defensive side of the field, the goaltending tandem of Megan Polk and Taylor Mangrum was also an important factor to the team. Combined, they totaled a 94% save percentage over the course of the season. In most cases, one would play in the first half,
the other in the second.
Senior defenders Alyssa Doolan and Felicia Maldonado were vital to the team's successful season as well. They led a 'unified' defense core that only allowed eight goals all season, including tournaments.
Next fall, behind Brient and Heileman, the Lady Rebels should be loaded once again and will make a major push towards their tenth state title.

Round two for Centennial vs. Franklin
by Tom Cheredar
Yet, Ravenwood verses Brentwood was not the only rival team rematch on the semifinal ticket.
It was also round two for Centennial (10-5-3) and Franklin (13-2-2), who first played Oct. 4 on the Cougar’s home field.
That game saw the Lady Rebels pick up a 2-1 victory despite an early 1-0 lead by Centennial’s Emily Kink.
Centennial defeated Hillwood 9-0 to finish the season and then took on Independence (6-6-3) in the first district tournament game, which finished 2-0.
“I knew it was a possibility that we would play Centennial again in the semifinals,” said Franklin coach Jimmy Burchett.
The Lady Rebels ended their regular season by shutting out Independence 6-0, which saw Meghan Mason as the game’s highest scorer with two goals.

FRANKLIN
Coach: Jimmy Burchett
Record: 18-1-3
Players to watch: Lucy Brient (F, Jr., 14 goals, 9 assists); Kaitlynn Heilman (M, Jr., 13 goals, 10 assists); Anna Grigg (F, So., 13 goals, 10 assists)
Title hopes: The Lady Rebels are playing their best soccer as they head to state, outscoring their opponents 38-2 in the postseason. While Brient, Heilman and Grigg provide for a balanced offense, senior backs Felecia Maldonado, Ashley Ladd and Alyssa Doolan anchor the defense. Franklin will be looking to avenge last season's penalty-kicks loss to Siegel when the teams meet again in the quarterfinals.

An undefeated season led the Lady Rebels once again to the State Quarter Finals. Although they lost in the first round, the team had its best season yet. Under the direction of Coach Burchett, the skilled Lady Rebels earned the title of District and Regional champions. "In spite of a disappointing loss in the state tournament, we had a great season. With only two losses, this team ranks as one of the best teams in school history. We were very balanced with a strong offense, a strong defense, and strong goal keepers. It was a fun group to work with", said Coach Burchett. Felicia Maldanado, 12, said, "My senior year of soccer was fun and I was really excited to make it to state as a senior. It was a good season to end with."
