Prep Girls Loose First Game Ever
Franklin High School of Nashville, Tenn., had gone seven years without losing a girls' soccer match, but the nation's longest winning streak came to a screeching halt when Chattanooga Notre Dame claimed the Tennessee state championship with a 2-1 win over the Lady Rebels. The loss was the first in the history of the Franklin Program. Franklin had sported a 93-0-3 record going into Saturday's title match with a Notre Dame team that the Lady Rebels had defeated in the state semifinals the past two years and had downed 4-3 earlier in the 1988 season. Franklin had won the two previous TSSAA championships and several titles in a statewide independent league which existed before the sport was sanctioned by the TSSAA.
