In a discussion with Nia Peeples about the relationships on "Fame" she revealed that originally Jesse and Nicole weren't meant to be a couple and that it was planned that Jesse and Holly would be a couple.

The great chemistry between Nia and Jesse led to the producers changing their plans for the characters' relationships.
