3rd EWPM

The 3rd EWPM was held at the International School of Economics at the Tbilisi State University (ISET) in Tbilisi, Georgia, on 11-13 June 2018.

The workshop began in the morning of 11 June (Monday) and ended around lunch time on 13 June (Wednesday). As in previous workshops, the last half of a day was left for a discussion of future plans, joint research interests, and potential collaborations.

ISET is an international Western-funded graduate school, similar in nature to CERGE-EI in Prague and CEU in Budapest. The majority of their faculty are international (all of the faculty have PhDs from Europe or North America), the language of instruction is English, and their students come predominantly from the Caucasus region (Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia).

Logistics

Tbilisi has direct flights to/from several European airports: Munich, Amsterdam, Vienna, Prague, Warsaw, Riga, and Athens. It also has several flights per day to/from Istanbul and Moscow, so that those not able to fly to Tbilisi directly should be able to connect conveniently in one of these. Note that Tbilisi and its surroundings have much to offer, and therefore arriving a day or two earlier would be also a good option. For your information, the time difference in the summer will be 2 hours with respect to Europe and 3 hours relative to the UK (Georgia does not implement daylight saving time so that the time difference is one hour shorter in summer than in winter).

Besides Tbilisi, Kutaisi airport has a number of budget flights from Europe. Kutaisi is some 3 hours by bus from Tbilisi.

Local arrangements

ISET has kindly offered to arrange airport transfers for the participants travelling to/from Tbilisi airport, and a list of transfers as well as of nearby hotels was distributed to the participants. The centre of Tbilisi is relatively small and most major sights, as well as plenty of restaurants, are within walking distance from ISET. Tbilisi also has a subway network and moving about by taxi is cheap (please make sure to agree the price beforehand and feel free to bargain).
