Review of Unity and Plurality

Abstract: In this review of Unity & Plurality: Logic, Philosophy, and Linguistics, I discuss competing views of pluralities within linguistics and philosophy. I demonstrate the sort of interdisciplinary dialogue the anthology aims to create by comparing two of the contributions, showing how the linguistic data brought forward by one might inform the philosophical underpinnings of the other. The review should be of independent interest to philosophers interested in the connection between Russell's well known distinction between "classes as many" vs. "classes as one", and the parallels in philosophical logic between manifolds vs. sets and in linguistics between pluralities vs. groups.
