NYSED Joins WIDA! Last NYSESLAT is 2026.Starting in the 2026-2027 school year, the New York State Education Department (NYSED) will begin using WIDA ACCESS Online, WIDA’s summative English language proficiency assessment. The NYS Board of Regents voted to approve a new framework, known as the “portrait of a graduate,” that helps explain what it will take to earn a diploma after the Regents exams are phased out as a graduation requirement beginning in the 2027-28 school year.
3. The New York State Education Department has offered the Science of Reading for Multilingual
LearnersToolkit. This toolkit combines leading research on teaching literacy to ELLs and MLs
and offers guidance for teachers, school leaders and administrators.
It is designed to support literacy for NYS English Language Learners and Multilingual Learners.
