Bangor Normal College 1973. Caernarfon League Champions, Alves Cup Winners, Penrhyn Cup Winners, Welsh Colleges Champions, British Colleges Finalists,
Graham Jones, Phil Roberts, Iwan V Evans, Meilir Owen, Steve Jackson, Gareth Williams (Gags), Eryl Powell, Hayden Williams, Front Row - Jim Wright, John Davies, Ian Jones, Dafydd Arfon Jones (capt) Phill Brown, George Hughes, Danny Roberts, Steve Murphy. Inset, Geoff Gill.
Don't know where Geoff was, definitely wasn't having his hair cut, perhaps he was being told off by Heulwen, again. (Stop Press 2016 golf at Betws - Danny said Geoff forgot, Geoff adamant Danny forgot to pick him up. Heulwen blameless).
Great team, and what a place to play - the other teams who came to Nantporth said it was like Wembley - and it was. Perfect surface, and exactly the same dimensions as Wembley. If you couldn't play football here, you couldn't play it anywhere!
There were super players in every position from 1971-73, some of whom, like Billy Ridler, and Dave Kelly, left in 1972. Iwan Fon took over from Dave Kelly - he was big and very vocal when cross. He also stopped a lot of goals.
Geoff Gill was hard as nails at centre half, so I used to let him head everything and tackle everyone and I just picked up the pieces and passed the ball to Billy or John Davies.
JD never did anything wrong - just ask him!I used to take all the penalties, but let him have one to complete a hat-trick in a Woolworth Cup Final! I only missed one, and I put the rebound in, in the British colleges semi final in Birmingham.
Meilir Owen was a wonderful centre-forward, a lethal finisher, whose only problem was that he was ever likely to be late because he was adjusting TV aerials or doing a spot of home improvements.
Phil Roberts was the best left-back I've ever played with, and we had a great partnership down that left side.
Dafydd Arfon Jones, our captain, never shut up, and was busy busy busy in midfield, as well as being very skilful - he was also our enforcer, and knew all the local players and how to wind them up.
Phill Brown was lightning on the wing! when he wasn't telling us how he'd played with Eddie Gray and Billy Bremner. The funny thing was that Phil Brown was the only non-Welsh player in the team, and yet when we played away in the Caernarfon League, the spectators used to shout "English Bastards!" at us.
Danny Roberts was under-rated, never stopped talking, and never let us down in midfield. Before a match against Llanrug (I think), Dafydd told Danny that Sel Alsopp was a softie and that if Danny took him out early, he would hide for the rest of the match. The rest of us knew this was not the case, and we enjoyed watching Danny kick Sel Alsopp in the first minute., knowing what would come. It wasn't a pretty sight!
Euryn Morris was off his head - he always claimed that he was dying of pleurisy or something, but he was so good!
John Ian Jones was quick and skilful and he scored so many vital goals.
Gags was tough and very skilful, he could play anywhere in defence, and was always superb.
My mum and dad found this in the Daily Post - about 2009, I think.

I have no idea why I am in this photo, as I have always been rubbish at basketball. It's a silly game, you have to run an awful long way at high speed, and then run back to the other end. And the basket is too small for that big ball. I think I only played 2 matches for the team as I decided it wasted too many heartbeats.
Some of these boys were rugby players - which reminds me of the time when the PE lecturer, Jim Davies, a fanatical South Walian Rugby Man (say no more), thought that the football players on the PE Main course were too soft so he set up a Murderball game, rugby players v football players in the gym.
The rugby boys were given the ball, and they charged straight through us and scored. Jim Davies was beside himself, and screamed at us "Tackle Them!!!!" To which we replied......"Why?" Match abandoned.
