Things to do:
After discussing this with Al we decided it would be difficult to organise whole group activities during
the day. We therefore decided to provide you with some suggestions of things to do. For those
who have not been able to join us previously, here are examples of things we have done on
previous reunions. Please feel free to email any other suggestions you may have following your
own experiences in the area. dannyrob@talktalk.net
In the past we have had our Friday evening meal at the Boatyard Inn, Garth Road.

Visit to Lower College.
This was both nostalgic and depressing. Many of the buildings, including Arfon, Seiriol, Refec are
disused. Condemned apparently!
Pub Visits.
Globe – great
Vaults (now called Patrick’s Bar) – good
Belle Vue –terrible (and that’s being kind)
Tap and Spile (by the pier) –good
Some were keen to visit The Three Crowns pub in downtown Bangor, famous for its cheap
scrumpy cider and schooners of sweet sherry. Sadly it was burnt down in 2014 and replaced by
flats.
Other Places to Consider
We have looked at other activities/visits when planning our past reunions.
Ribride on the Menai Straits
The company offers 8 different speedboat experiences in and around the Menai Straits area.
Eryl really enjoyed the Puffin Island trip last year - seriously!
Llechwedd Slate Caverns
In addition to the renowned deep mine tour experience you can now also enjoy underground
adventure activities at Llechwedd, Blaenau Ffestiniog. There are 3 different Zip Wire rides. The company also
operates a Zip Wire ride at Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda.
National Trust
There are 2 places close to Bangor you could visit. Penrhyn Castle and Plas Newydd House. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/search?type=place&query=Bangor&lat=53.22739&lon=-4.129263
Both have extensive gardens. If you’re travelling on the A55 you may want to visit the glorious
Bodnant Gardens in the Conway Valley.
Have alook at these, as well. Tripadvisor recommendations
