The Graduate Council has several internal and external positions that ensure we get things done and successfully represent student voices within the Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science, and the larger University of British Columbia community. Internal Positions
These positions relate to the running of the council and events/activities offered by the council.
The coordinator(s) ensure the smooth functioning of the council. They chair council meetings, receive and reply to emails for the council, and coordinate between the council and the Department when necessary.
This role is typically filled by one to three members.
The secretary keeps meeting minutes, coordinates the meetings agendas and helps to organise the administration for the Council
The treasurer manages the annual budget for the Council

Social Coordinators organise fun and inclusive activities for graduate students in our department such as pub quizzes, board game evenings, and beach hangouts.
This role is filled by a number of students who share responsibilities. If you have any ideas for events, come along to one of our meetings!
The Sport/Intramural Coordinator organise sporting and active events for graduate students in the department. These activities include hiking, ocean swims, and a recreational ultimate frisbee team.
This role is filled by a number of students who share responsibilities.
Sustainability Coordinators promote action within the department to tackle the environmental, economical, and social issues perceived by graduate students in EOAS.
Representatives to External Committees
The EOAS Graduate Council has representatives on various EOAS and UBC committees to ensure representation of EOAS graduate students their interest across a range of topics. These representatives provide updates at council's bi-weekly meetings and take action following graduate council's discussion.
The Department Meeting Representative attends department meetings and represents the graduate council, bringing up issues and concerns directly related to graduate students.
Meets with the EOAS Graduate Advisory Committee to discuss issues affecting graduate students.

The EDI committee representative attends the EOAS department-wide EDI meetings to contribute graduate student perspectives, and to update the council on initiatives taking place.
This representative interfaces between graduate students in EOAS and the UBC Graduate Student Society (GSS). They are the link between the GSS, EOAS faculty and staff, and EOAS graduate students. The representative meets with graduate students to discuss issues of concern and bring them to the Graduate Council, they report to the Department on discussions and decisions made during the Graduate Council and represent graduate students from our department on major UBC committees.
Representatives on this committee address the climate emergency through the promotion of sustainable action and engagement of students at the broader EOAS department level, in collaboration with undergraduate students, staff, and faculty.
