The archipelago along the Swedish coast is often divided in parts which all have differnet names - originating from our forefathers. Eknö is the biggest island of the Tjust archipelago and is situated between the Swedish towns Västervik and Oskarshamn. It’s about 5 kilometres to the mainland and the navigable route passes just east of the island. Eknö is about 3 kilometres east to west and 6 kilometres north to south and is mainly covered with forest.
The houses are concentrated to the two old fishing villages on East and West Eknö respectively, and that is also the names of the two parts of the island. The small roads are well maintained, but there are normally no cars on the island - just a few tractors and motobikes. There is also a lot of old paths, which are still open for walking.
In winter there are just a few persons living there, but in summer about 200 persons stay there for vacation and relaxation.
There are two separate village communities to deal with questions of importance to the inhabitants, but this site is only for East Eknö.
