Purpose

How starts a great adventure

In some foreign land?

Is there fear of those that censure?

Is it sudden? Is it planned?

For there are many reasons

To tread on distant sand.

Is a man guilty of treason,

Fleeing from his crime?

Does he wish for a season

Some place else to while his time?

Does he go there for a purpose,

Some mountain there to climb?

Does he travel to expose

Those mysteries long lost,

To feel beneath his toes

The bounce of untouched moss?

Into the world we go, unyielding, unafraid,

That we some victory may know

When at last the journey’s made.
