Hiding in Chains

Freedom is a value

Sought only by the brave,

Those with the strength to push through,

Defy their destiny grave.

Not only will the coward

Flee, their life to save,

They fear the very reward,

Not wishing to be free.

For free men are their own ward,

Must take responsibility.

This scares the coward most

So for a king they plea.

Yes, this trembling host

Desires someone else

To take the blame when battle lost

So it falls not on themselves.

For that is the greatest courage

To accept their shortcomings,

Not ‘gainst some other rage.
