James Westgarth Wilkinson

James Wilkinson works in the performing arts as a trombonist, composer, puppeteer, sound engineer, writer and educator. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts (BMus) and Charles Sturt University – Riverina (BA) his teaching experience includes international theatre workshops and lecturing in audio technology at RMIT University Melbourne and LASALLE College of the Arts Singapore.

James’s work includes live sound reinforcement for bands, theatre productions and studio based music production, and reviewing professional audio products for Audio Technology magazine.

His work as a trombonist straddles both classical and contemporary repertoire, solo works, rock, dub, jazz and improvised music. Festival performances have included Gaudeamus Festival (Holland), World Social Forum (Brazil), Yogyakarta Arts Festival (Indonesia), Daidogei World Cup (Japan) and The Big Day Out Festival (Australia).

Fascinated by the world of sound his work focuses on the broader understanding of listening, performing and production of audio in all its forms. His teaching methodology is framed by experience working in audio production and performing and creating music for concert and theatre.
