With my older brother Albert '62, acting in some of the shows (No Time for Sergeants, Damn Yankees), the Drama Guild caught my interest. As a young rock guitarist (not very good but highly motivated) I ended up playing in Bye Bye Birdie and The Sound of Music. The feeling of pride and accomplishment I felt after my involvement with Frank and all the others was so amazing it has stayed with me all these years. The first time I ever sang in public was at an after party for Birdie and I've been singing and playing ever since. I've been a Professor of Guitar at Boston's Berklee College of Music since 1972.
I have the complete show of Birdie on an old reel to reel tape somewhere but no longer have a reel to reel player. I wish I could be there but I have performances in the Boston area I can't get out of. If anyone wants to get in touch, please do. My e-mail is mihde@berklee.edu and my web site is www.mikeihde.com. I hope to hear from you soon. - Mike Ihde '65
