Synopsis: Next generation of industrial production Industry 4.0 aims to significantly improve the flexibility, versatility, usability and efficiency of future smart factories. I4.0 integrates advanced manufacturing and operations techniques with the most recent digital and information technologies to create dynamic, interconnected, and smart manufacturing ecosystems. However, the concept of I4.0 is not limited to the factory but also encompasses the entire life cycle of the product, from production, supplier to the end user. I4.0 delivers seamless vertical and horizontal integration down the entire value chain and across all layers of the automation pyramid. Moreover, I4.0 relies enormously on sustainable engineering systems which also incorporate IoT, Big Data and artificial intelligence AI to enhance their performance and different processes. In general this book is multi-disciplinary and is meant for anyone with a basic engineering background who would be interested to acquire a solid foundation in the fundamental concepts and the state of the art research trends in intelligent and sustainable engineering systems related to Industry 4.0.
