The Double Eagle golf club is the oldest Greek golf club in Melbourne.
This is our history:
In 1987 James Marinopoulos organise a set of three golf games to gather interest in forming a club that would play golf once a month. The trial golf games were successful and the Double Eagle Golf (and social) Club was formed in December 1987. The first committee was James Marinopoulos (1st Captain), Peter (Ivo) Theodorakopoulos (1st President) and John Marinopoulos (1st Treasurer). Significant members to join in the first year, and stay with the club, were Nick Thomopoulos, Con Yianakos, George Apeitos.
The first game was organised for February 1988 and the games continued monthly for next 160 months (when in April 2001 the club had its first washout game). The other main impact on the club was forced to shut down most of 2020 and 2021 due to COVID. The monthly format has been increased over the years and by the end of 2024 there will be 17 games per year including interstate trips.
The club will complete 37 full years at the end of 2024 with just over 450 games played. See Club Games History for the number of games each year.
